What Are You Up To On Friday Night?

Me? I've got Senator Bernie Sanders' filibuster of the Obama-GOP tax cut plan cranked up while I eat a peanut butter and blueberry preserve sandwich. This is an old fashioned filibuster, meaning he's actually they're talking for hours and hours. He started at 10:25am, has not taken a break, and has only had water since then. This is a "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington" moment. This is what it looks like when a filibuster is used for good. Give Bernie a listen. He speaks goodness.

Know what? That story is nowhere on cnn.com. I went over there to find a place that's streaming it.

Looks like it just ended. So the senate isn't supposed to vote until 2pm on Monday. What was the strategery here?

Also, I missed the beginning but it looks like cspan has it all online.

Yep, he just ended after 8.5 hours. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what the strategy was, because it wasn't technically a real filibuster (like to stop a cloture vote or something). It was just him talking for a long time. If nothing else, I hope it rallied some other liberal Dems to fight against the tax cut deal.

Talking Points Memo, Huffington Post, and Daily Kos had links to the cspan feed as well. Supposedly, when he first started, so many people were trying to access the feed that it crashed for a little while.
