Seriously though, Obama has finally started to get a little feisty in refuting these ridiculous attacks against health care reform. I think he should go farther and start calling the liars out by name. Remember how John Edwards criticized Obama in the primaries? He said something like, "You can't just sit down and 'negotiate' with these people [health insurance companies]. They're not gonna sit down at a table and just give up their power to you."
It's time to stop meekly begging corporations and their representatives to let us do what we want ("pretty please allow a public option") and time to beat them and just do what we want. Maybe Obama is starting to understand this. I think he has enough political firepower to do this. But it may require being as blunt with the truth as the other side has been nasty with the lies.
Yes, exactly! If he's ever going to throw an elbow, this is the time. There's nothing after this that he needs to save up goodwill for. We won for this. So let's use reconciliation or whatever we need to.
Even as a matter of cold strategy, he must think that he has to get the legislation he wants, or else both sides are going to turn on him.
I would most likely say "Strike me down now, and I shall become more powerful than you could ever imagine"...or some other just as stirring quote from star wars.
