Well That Didn't Take Long

As predicted, Senator Scott "Treasure Trail" Brown broke with his party early to help Democrats pass an important bill.

So begins his seesaw ride. He's shown he's not afraid to buck the right wing, but now he has to win back the conservative activists who elected him. And then he'll have to vote like a Democrat again when he remembers he's from Massachusetts. And then back. And forth. And up. And down.

I still think he's toast in 2012.

I'm watching the White House health care summit thing. Do you think that when Obama says, of the reconciliation possibility (and this isn't an exact quote), "I don't think the American people are that interested in procedures within the Senate; I think they think that a majority vote should be enough," that he's giving a nudge to dems in congress to do the reconciliation thing? It seemed like it to me, because McCain had just said something about how passing health care with reconciliation would end democracy as we know it and also make the baby Jesus cry.

Yes. I think reconciliation/majority vote is the settled strategy now. It's really just a question of what the Senate Dems will put in the reconciliation bill and whether or not it will be a straight party-line vote.

The president is saying to Republicans, "Hey, we're throwing in these concessions in the hope that you guys will get on board, but either way, the train is still leaving the station."

Was it just me, or did John McCain look like he was: bored, sucking a lemon, or late for a massage appointment? I thought the President was masterful at keeping the attention focused on the issue and calling political posturing what it was when it was uttered by certain Repubs. But then again, maybe it was just me...

I've taken the kids to the doctor twice this week and haven't paid a cent. And Nate's speech therapy next week? It's free. Just wanted to throw that in there.

But don't trust me cause I'm totally a socialist now.

Yeah, I thought it was interesting and that Obama did a great job of wrapping up at the end, and laying out all the points of agreement/disagreement.

What I told Matt was that I thought John McCain was in the process of passing a kidney stone. Poor thing.

Alright, I just posted about the summit! It would have been sooner, but we went to go see Crazy Heart.
